Amethyst is one of my favorite go-to crystals. The reason being is because not only is it absolutely beautiful, but it is very versatile as well.
Versatile I say, how so, you ask? Oh, let me list the ways my darlings!
Throughout history, Amethyst has been held in high esteem in many cultures across the globe. Amethyst is considered a semi-precious stone today, aka, gem quality. It's used in many different types of jewelry, and its deep purple is often sought after but rarely replicated.
Amethyst has a truly interesting history, particularly its origin story. The name Amethyst comes from the Greek word Améthystos, which means "not intoxicated". An ancient legend says that the wine God Bacchus became angry over an insult and his haste to defend himself he decreed that the first person he met would be devoured by tigers. A very beautiful young woman named Amethyst became victim to his anger. On her way to worship at the shrine of Diana the tigers attacked Amethyst. She cried out seeking the protection of Diana who then turned her into a gorgeous, clear white crystal. Bacchus regretted his cruelty, and as an offering poured the juice of his grapes over the beautiful stone.

This very legend is also why Amethyst is referred to as the "Stone of Sobriety". It's said to help prevent drunkenness and overindulgence. Hence why throughout history Amethyst is seen inlaid into many goblets.
Amethyst is associated with the Third Eye Chakra and helps to increase intuition and psychic abilities. It also aids in warding off black magic and what seeks to do harm against you. Amethyst has a very high frequency and aids in purifying the aura of negative energies and attachments while also creating a protective shield of light around the body.
This gorgeous stone also helps to calm and soothe, which is why it is often used in meditative and yogic practices. Amethyst is also often used to ward off nightmares, therefore putting a piece on your headboard or under your pillow can aid in more restful sleep.
